1. What is the euthanasia process like?

We have two goals at In Home Final Pet Care: 1. Prevent any suffering or discomfort to your pet. 2. Make the process as stress free and easy for you as possible, which helps speed up your healing process.
We use what is commonly referred to as a two or a three step process. This means that we will first give your pet a sedative, sometimes followed by a light anesthesia, and ending with the euthanasia solution. The euthanasia solution is a strong anesthetic given at a very high dose. You pet will experience no discomfort or suffering.

2. What happens after the euthanasia process is done?

We transport your pet to the crematorium. If you would like to have the ashes back, we arrange a private cremation and we will personally deliver the ashes back to you. Of course, burial is also an option (see Question 6).

3. I am having a hard time making the decision. Can you come to evaluate my pet and help me decide if this is the right time?

Yes. Dr. Kelly is a veterinary specialist, board certified in internal medicine. She has over 20 years of experience treating elderly and terminally ill pets. She will visit you in your home, meet your pet, and provide you with a professional opinion on the right timing for euthanasia. The cost for this service is $250.

4. I have another pet in the house. Should my other pet be present during the euthanasia?

While this decision is up to you and your family, we definitely allow other pets to be present at the time. Other pets will usually be more interested in us and our equipment. Once the excitement of our arrival wears down, most pets will settle down nearby but not necessarily right next to the patient. After we have performed euthanasia on the patient, we do allow other pets to approach the body and sniff around. Some pets will, and some won't. And that is ok.

5. Will you come to perform euthanasia only, without aftercare?

Yes. We do offer the service of euthanasia only without any aftercare.

6. I wish to bury my pet. Will you take him/her to the pet cemetery for me?

Yes. When a burial is requested, appointments are scheduled during regular cemetery hours so we can immediately deliver your pet to them.

7. How much notice do you need when scheduling an appointment?

Although not required, 24-48 hour notice is greatly appreciated as it helps us serve you and your pet closer to the time you desire. We do get booked ahead of time and, occasionally, may be booked on a particular day/time. However, we will make every effort to accommodate you and your schedule.

8. Do you work on weekends and holidays?

Yes, we work when you need us, even during all major holidays and on weekends.

9. Do you work after hours?

Yes. Evening appointments are available. We do charge an after hours/emergency fee of $150 for appointments scheduled after 8:00 pm.

10. My pet passed away at home. Will you pick up the body?

Yes, we do offer this service. We also can arrange private cremation and we will deliver the ashes back to you if desired. Please call us for pricing.
